This Week’s Feature Author Interview with

Katie Lewington

Hi Katie Lewington, welcome to the Indie Publishing Group website. Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what do you enjoy doing, hobbies and interests.

I am a writer living just outside of London. I love writing, reading, being creative, walking, and helping others. I also run a successful book blog, with weekly writing prompts, and guest posts.

When did you start writing and why?

I don’t think I ever had a choice. I got the writing bug as soon as I learnt to write. It became something that people were always associating me with, either a book or a notebook, and pen.

Which is your favorite book you have written and what gave you the idea for it?

Well, Starve, my YA lit novella, has probably most of my affection because it has come from a lot of my own experiences, positive and negative. I started writing it when I was thirteen. I never really liked keeping a diary, so it became something of an outlet.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

Many changes later, and that title felt right.

Who helped you with the cover? Or did your design it yourself? What was your inspiration for your cover design?

I designed it myself. I don’t think there was inspiration as such, but finding the right image to fit the story.

What are some of the themes of your story?

Mental health is the primary theme and relationships.

What’s your process when you sit down and decide to start writing a book? What is your process and do you have a system?

I never tell myself to sit down and write a book. I do with editing, but I struggle with not finding distractions. I write poetry, and poems can strike whenever wherever, usually when I haven’t got paper, pen, or my tablet.

Who are some of your favorite characters and why?

Alice from Wonderland reminds me of myself. Curious, always curious. I don’t think any characters, other than Alice, have struck me.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

The writers that have been published on the Your One Phone Call, and In- Between Hangovers, blogs have my utmost respect, and awe. As a book blogger, I have met many amazing, creative, writers. Dane Cobain is one of them, and Nikky Kaye, and Emmanuelle De Maupassant. Bruce Kilarski is somebody who writes the funniest stuff. I love the Beat writers. H.G.Wells, Fitzgerald, Jean Rhys, John Steinbeck, and Byron are brilliant. David Nobbs, who wrote the Reggie Perrin books, is great. I could go on!

Have you got anything you’re working on now?

I am putting together my second collection of erotic poetry.

If you could have any super powers what would they be?

I would want to have the power to heal the sick.

If you could travel to any location in the world where would you go?

Oh, Portugal. That place is like a dream.

Where do you hope to be in 5 years’ time?

Five years’ time. Well, that’s a great question. I hope I’m happy, and healthy.
