Author Interview with the Talented N N Light!
Hi N N Light, welcome to the Indie Publishing Group website. Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what you enjoy doing, hobbies, and interests.
Introduce yourself to us!
N. N. Light is the bestselling husband-wife writing team, commonly known as Mr. N and Mrs. N. Mrs. N. has been creating stories ever since she was little. Her grandfather remembers when she was two years old, she would stand at the top of the stairs and tell him a story filled with emotion (and in a language foreign to him) with her hands on her hips. Let’s just say she was a born storyteller.
We’re blissfully happy and love all things chocolate, books, music, movies, art, sports, trains, history, cooking and baking. Our mantra is to spread the Light and we talk about what that means every day on our blog.
Most of the time you can find us on Twitter (our favorite social media platform) or getting new ideas on how to spread the Light on Pinterest. We’re a proud member of ASMSG and Independent Author Network.
In addition to being authors, we’re also book promoters/reviewers, social media marketers/influencers and the owners of N. N. Light Author Promotions. We both love books, have ever since we were young. Matching up books and readers is something that gives us great pleasure.
When did you start writing and why?
Mrs. N: I’ve been writing and telling stories ever since I was little. Writing was my best friend and my confidante growing up. I poured my heart and soul into my writing and those who I let read my stories wanted more. After I graduated from college, the real world intruded and I entered the publishing world as a bookseller and bookstore manager. Writing took a backseat and it wasn’t until after I married Mr. N that I started writing my stories. He encouraged me to quit my job and write full-time. Together, we became N. N. Light.
Mr. N: It’s true, what my beloved says. After several years working as a chef in the restaurant industry, I was burned out and needed a change. A new career and higher pay meant she could concentrate on what she’s wanted most: to write and publish her stories. We work so well together that writing as a team is second nature and through the process, I discovered I had the talent for writing, too.
Which is your favorite book you have written and what gave you the idea for it?
Princess of the Light. It’s our debut novel and it’s the one closest to our hearts. Here’s the story behind it as told by Mrs. N:
Four years ago, I was out for my morning walk and I saw a homeless man sitting in front of a gas station. I looked at him, head uplifted to the sun, and wondered what his story was. I hadn’t seen him before and knew instantly he was different from other homeless people. He didn’t ask for money or holdup a sign. He walked the length of our town and avoided contact.
A voice entered my head, “What if you could help him? Would you? What if you were chosen to help him and others like him?”
I stopped walking and searched my heart. After a moment, I replied aloud, “Yes, I would.”
The voice echoed in my heart, “This is what you were called to do.”
I went home that day and started writing Princess of the Light. Every day I would see the Walking Man and as Mary would help her Walking Man, I would help mine. I started small by smiling at him and saying “good morning”. The simple acknowledgement didn’t seem like a big deal to me but every time I did it, his face lit up and he nodded back to me.
I soon got my husband involved and we started leaving food, clothing and blankets for him. I promised myself that when my book got published, part of the proceeds would go to helping people like the Walking Man find food, clothing and shelter.
Our book is available at Amazon and we’re keeping our promise. Part of the proceeds of Princess of the Light goes directly to food banks in order to feed the hungry and help those in need. With only 7,500 books sold, we will be able to set up a monthly endowment for the local food bank.
How did you come up with the title for your book?
The title was pretty easy as that is what Mary is (Princess of the Light) and she’s been chosen to fight Lucifer’s army of demons and restore Light to all.
Who helped you with the cover? Or did your design it yourself? What was your inspiration for your cover design?
Our cover artist is French (Erica Petit) and she really nailed it. We wanted a powerful cover to convey the strength and badassery of Mary.
What are some of the themes of your story?
There are several themes going on in this paranormal inspirational romance.
First, there’s the calling of Mary. She’s leading a double-life and it’s imperative she balance her normal life with her Princess life. Sometimes they overlap and she must deal with whatever happens.
Second theme is the romance between Mary and Joe. While it seems like a chance meeting, it’s part of a bigger plan. Mary and Joe must overcome quite a bit and all while battling dark forces and an ex-fiancée.
Third theme is the transformation of a homeless man called The Walking Man. He’s the lost soul, tortured beyond recognition by Than (Lucifer’s second in command). When Mary and Joe decide to show kindness to The Walking Man, realization hits too close to home for Joe. Forgiveness, redemption, spiritual warfare all play their part in this story. We wanted to show readers that simple acts of kindness and understanding to those less fortunate can have a huge impact.
Have you got anything you’re working on now?
We’re working on a few projects. We’re writing the sequel to Princess of the Light. We’re writing an alternative history book (Mr. N is the pointman on this project as it’s his creation) as well as a new adult romance. We’re also putting together the sequel to our love poetry collection as well as an inspirational thought book.
N N Light If you could have any super powers, what would they be?
Time travel. Both of us lost our dads when we were young, and we’d give just about anything to go back in time and relive time with our dads.
