This Week’s Featured Author Interview with

Glenn McGoldrick

Hi Glenn McGoldrick, welcome to the Indie Publishing Group website. Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what do you enjoy doing, hobbies and interests.

I live in the North East of England, which is where I’m from. I worked in Casinos for twenty years, and spent fifteen of those years travelling on cruise ships. I finished on ships in 2011, returning to England.

When I’m not busy writing, I enjoy music, movies, beach walks and beer

When did you start writing and why?

I loved English classes at school, and was often the spelling champ. I was an avid reader, and remember writing some stories when I was at primary school. Probably complete rubbish, but I enjoyed it!

Then I grew up, got a job, travelled the world a bit, forgot all about writing. When I left cruise ships in 2011, I took a year off, thinking about what I wanted to do next.

Then I took a writing course, got chance to write some stories and loved it. The rest, as they say, is history.

Which is your favorite book you have written and what gave you the idea for it?

Nightmare Waiting; I think that it includes my best stories, my darkest stories.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

I took the easy option, and used the name of one of the stories in the collection for the title of the collection!

What’s your process when you sit down and decide to start writing a book? What is your process and do you have a system?

I do a lot of writing in the car. Obviously, not while I’m driving. I’ll park at the beach, put my seat back, scribble away on my notepad, developing the idea, drinking coffee and staring out to sea. It’s my home away from home!

Who are some of your favorite authors?

I’m an avid reader, particularly enjoying James Lee Burke (Robicheaux series), Robert B Parker (Spenser series) and Lawrence Block (Scudder series).

I usually bookmark my favourite passages from their books, then revisit them later, hoping to soak up some of their skills!

Have you got anything you’re working on now?

I’ve just finished a story, so now I’ll spend a week or so promoting my website and books. Then, in the not too distant future, I’ll get the urge to start another story…

If you could have any super powers what would they be?

Invisibility. Or the ability to fly. Or to be able to sell my books effortlessly.

If you could travel to any location in the world where would you go?

Scuba diving in the South Pacific.

Where do you hope to be in 5 years’ time?

I’d like to still be enjoying my writing, but making a lot more money from it than I am now!

Thanks so much for taking the time to do an author interview. Take a minute and check Glenn McGoldrick out on the links below. Glenn McGoldrick’s book, Nightmare Waiting: And Other Dark Stories, is available for purchase HERE.
