This Week’s Feature Author Interview with
C.P. Duhart
Hi C.P. Duhart, welcome to the Indie Publishing Group website. Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what do you enjoy doing, hobbies and interests.
I’m Charles Perry Duhart. Originally from South Georgia. When I’m not writing, I enjoy: boxing, weight-lifting, Kendo (Japanese fencing), World of Warcraft, and learning to play the guitar.
When did you start writing and why?
I suppose I’ve always been a writer. I was very skilled at ‘telling stories’ when I was young and I was punished many times for making things up.
Which is your favorite book you have written and what gave you the idea for it?
I’ve written plenty of stories that were never published. When I was in the Navy, my friend and I developed comic book characters and created a world for them to live in. My favorite story is called “Even unto the End” and is a story in that universe.
How did you come up with the title for your book?
“Good Choices” seemed an appropriate name considering the story itself. People typically find themselves stuck in situations where they have too many choices. They feel tormented or conflicted over so many choices, but the most important thing is what they actually choose to do.
Who helped you with the cover? Or did your design it yourself? What was your inspiration for your cover design?
I designed the cover myself, but it is a lot different than the original concept that I had in mind. I used Fiverr to find the images and worked to make it look as ominous and mysterious as I could.
What are some of the themes of your story?
Courage, determination, and being ultimately true to one’s self.
What’s your process when you sit down and decide to start writing a book? What is your process and do you have a system?
I usually look at a story as its already finished. Like, it happened in another universe and I’m just transcribing it as I see it. I watch and re-watch until I can just record what happens without too much interference.
Who are some of your favorite characters and why?
In “Good Choices”, my favorite character must be ‘Thumper’. He’s smarter than he looks and worse than you think.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Bernard Cornwell and Stephen King are two of my favorites right now.
Have you got anything you’re working on now?
Yes, I’m working on a story that fits into the same world as “Good Choices”. Right now, the title of my next story will be – “Nos Patriam Defendere”.
If you could have any super powers what would they be?
Ouch – I can only choose only one?! I was gonna go for a multiple spread. I’d take super strength over super speed, but flight over strength. So, I will go with flight.
If you could travel to any location in the world where would you go?
Japan. I’d love to visit shrines in Japan.
Where do you hope to be in 5 years’ time?
I hope to have published several novellas and books by then and have gotten into a very good rhythm of producing good stories.
