This Week’s Feature Author Interview with

Kim Padgett-Clarke

Hi Kim Padgett-Clarke, welcome to the Indie Publishing Group website. Introduce yourself to us. Tell everyone who you are, where you’re from, what do you enjoy doing, hobbies and interests.

Hi everyone. My name is Kim Padgett-Clarke. I live in Blackpool, a seaside resort in the UK. Apart from writing and reading books I love to go to the cinema. My taste in films is pretty eclectic but my favorite is still One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.

When did you start writing and why?

I really can’t remember ever not writing. I know my mum told me that from an early age I would fill notebooks with stories. The books I read as a child inspired me to want to be a writer someday.

Which is your favorite book you have written and what gave you the idea for it?

I have a soft spot for my first novel Pain. Probably because it was my first venture into novel writing. Prior to this I had numerous short stories published. I love stories with strong emotions and I love anything to do with the paranormal so I fused the two together.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

I read a story about a woman whose child had died. I began to think about the emotional pain that would have caused her.

Who helped you with the cover? Or did your design it yourself? What was your inspiration for your cover design?

I hired a design company for Made Of Glass. A number of artists posted their vision of the artwork based on the blurb for the book. It was so hard choosing the final one because they were all so good.

What are some of the themes of your story?

The main theme is emotional control. I felt it was an issue that most people can relate to as they have probably come across a controlling person at some point in their lives. With Made Of Glass this theme is taken to extremes.

What’s your process when you sit down and decide to start writing a book? What is your process and do you have a system?

My memory isn’t so good so I try to plan each chapter out and pin them on a board to give me a guideline. Inevitably my original plans change slightly as I get deeper into the book and the story may go in a slightly different direction to my original intentions. It can be quite an exhilarating journey.

Who are some of your favorite authors?

I tend to buy books that catch my interest rather than because it is from one particular author. However, I have read a lot of Stephen King books in the past.

Have you got anything you’re working on now?

I have drafted out my third novel. At the moment I am busy promoting MOG but I hope to start the new one within the next month.

If you could have any super powers what would they be?

Wave a magic wand and end war.

If you could travel to any location in the world where would you go?

Canada. I have been three times now and I just can’t get enough of this beautiful country.

Where do you hope to be in 5 years’ time?

At a point where I can write for a living. Jobs take up too much time that could be dedicated to writing!

Thanks so much for taking the time to do an author interview. Take a minute and check Kim Padgett-Clarke out on the links below!
